After suffering two grand mal seizures in late January 2019, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor that would later be classified as a “grade II atypical meningioma”. According to the American Brain Tumor Association, meningiomas are often benign tumors arising from the coverings of the brain and spinal cord. They represent about one-third of all primary brain tumors and occur most frequently in middle-aged women.
My neurosurgeon performed a very successful craniotomy on me January 22, 2019 where my entire tumor was removed. I will forever be grateful for him, his team and to all of those who provided me with the absolute best care at St. Francis Hospital. I believe that I was given a second chance to live my best life and am blessed that I continue to grow stronger every day on my road to recovery.
Please consider supporting me as I participate in the Path of Hope 5K Walk/Run being held May 4, 2019 at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford. All proceeds benefit the Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance. Their mission is to provide hope and support to brain tumor patients and caregivers, while advancing brain tumor awareness, quality of care and brain tumor research. Participating in this year's walk is especially important to me as this will be the first physical activity event I will be medically cleared to participate in since my craniotomy surgery.
